Do you eat only organic fruits and vegetables, and hormone/antibiotic free meats while at home but do not have the same luxury while you are on the road? Thanks to businesses like Chipotle Mexican Grill your “on the road” meals can be just as good as your home-cooked meals. Chipotle uses only naturally raised pork and chicken and at least 50 percent of the beef used is also naturally raised. What does this mean to you? Naturally raised means the animals were never given growth hormones or antibiotics, they were fed only vegetarian feed and were given enough room to move about in their everyday lives.
Chipotle doesn’t stop here, they also use at least 30 percent organic beans. Their cheese and sour cream is free of the synthetic hormone recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) and they are beginning to source more of their foods from local farms. They call this way of doing business Food With Integrity Journey. It has made them the restaurant with the most naturally raised meat in the country. Other facts about Chipotle’s food includes:
* No artificial colors or flavorings
* Zero trans fats
* No nuts
* No eggs
* 300+ restaurants recycle glass, plastic and/or cardboard
The sustainable train is still going. They have 2 LEED certified restaurants, one in Illinois and the other is in Minnesota. They use LED lighting, water reducing plumbing fixtures, and native landscaping that is irrigated using harvested rainwater. Chipotle even uses recycled content serving dishes like their bowls that are made from 99% recycled newsprint. But don’t worry, it is completely sanitary! The napkins and basket liners are unbleached and the gift cards are made from bio-plastic.
