Don’t Waste That Beer!

shinerIn Wisconsin we LOVE our beer! it is practically running in our blood! Here it is almost a law that you cannot waste our precious brew, we have many ways to use it when it is past its prime (not that we ever let it get there). Incase you happen to stumble upon a stale beer that a “friend” didn’t finish from the night before we have included some tips on what to do with that beer. The “friend”, now that is a different story!

Get your compost pile drunk! Dump your half drank beer on the top of your compost pile before you turn it, this will add some oomph to your micro-organisms.

Bee attractant. If you have ever eaten at an outdoor restaurant you know that bees are attracted to your tasty beer. Pour some stale beer into a dish and place away from where you plan to sit.

Hair spray. Save that stale beer for a bad hair day! Dump the remaining beer (if you are sure your “friends” don’t backwash) into a spray bottle to set your curls or hold your style.

Sayonara Slugs. Sad, but true. These poor saps love beer, dump some in a bowl and place outside where the slugs are an issue. With a nice ramp for the slugs to enter the bowl they will surely “drop in”. If that is a bit too harsh for you, you can distract the slugs by sprinkling beer on weeds in your garden so the slugs eat the weeds instead of your plants.

Wood Duster. Did you ever notice how after an accidental spill your wooden table seemed to glisten a bit? Dampen (not wet) a rag with a small amount of beer to wipe off wooden items. The beer helps pick up dust while leaving it shiny. (Too much beer on the rag will be sticky)
