I love to celebrate when main stream companies take a step in the right direction, that highlights a green practice or product. If they get it right, we need to acknowledge their efforts and if we are looking to purchase, buy the product as well.
On Earth Day, Disney along with a number of other main stream companies introduced green clothing. You can read here about Disney’s efforts to encourage sustainability in their operations. Because I grew up loving the Disney Company, I am taking a special interest in their activities including a investigative trip to the Florida location in the summer. I even admit to stalking someone on our green confessions board to find out where they purchased their green mickey tote bag (See story here).
So, back to green clothing, Disney introduced both organic cotton t-shirts as well as shirts made from 60% recycled post-consumer waste. They are cute, they are fun, they are soft, and they have at least one additional green feature as the organic t-shirts were made in South America instead of Asia, reducing the distance they had to travel.
I don’t know if they will keep them around and expand their offerings. One of the ways we can encourage them to do that is to support their green product and green efforts. Are they perfect? Nope. But neither am I.
