Doggie Do

Samantha writes: Most everyone knows how harmful plastic bags are to the environment and that they do not breakdown in landfills. Most people also know that doggy dookie can degrade our water quality and spread diseases and bacteria. So when my five pound Yorkshire Terrier does her duty outside my boyfriend and I use toilet paper to pick it up and dispose of in our toilet. We don’t carry TP with us on walks… we are not that far over the deep end! We have biodegradable bags for times that we are away from home. The reason we don’t use those all the time is because they need sunlight to biodegrade, and if they are not on the top of the landfill they will still take years to degrade. At least when we flush her tiny turds they can be broken down and maybe used to generate power? Maybe that is a stretch, but it is our way to reduce her impact on the environment. So far we have not been caught by my neighbors doing this, and I’m dreading the day they see me carrying the doggy doo back into my apartment. Is this going too far for the sake of the environment? To my boyfriend and me it seems like the eco-logical thing to do.
