The challenge in this philosophy, though, is a lot of people aren’t comfortable setting out to these lands where they are out of their element in language, food and customs. Most of the group trips we’ve encountered run into the large bus trip with little time or opportunity to interact beyond our group. And, with no opportunity to learn travel skills, like journaling. That is why I love Globejotter Tours. The founder and head guide, Dave Fox, cut his teeth in the tour industry running trips for Rick Steve’s Europe Through the Backdoor and he teaches travel journaling throughout the country. Dave has been to over 40 countries in 5 continents, so you’ll be in good hands on the trips.
The first schedule trip is this October to South Vietnam with other locates to follow.

Robin’s got it right. It’s great to travel and learn about the people who actually live at our destinations–what they do, believe, care about, dream about. That’s why groups like Voluntourism.org work with the travel industry to promote the integration of learning, travel and service. Way to go!
