With radiant in-floor heat you loss the opportunity to cool a house with one system. There are radiant cooling products on the market but it wasn’t feasible for this project. In order to provide cooling for the house we decided to add an air handler with a cold water coil fed from the geothermal unit. This air handler is also capable of heating the air in the event that the geothermal system goes down or you want to heat house on a cold fall day without having to turn on the radiant floor system that takes a while to respond.

Cardinal Heating and Cooling – We worked really hard with Cardinal Heating and Cooling to try to implement this new technology, but it just wasnʼt ready for the residential application. The cost of the system prevented it from being a repeatable scenario, and that being one of our goals, we felt it needed to be removed. But it was removed when I was already fairly down that heating and cooling path. In the end our system choice was impacted by this late change. That being said, I am thrilled with the system we are using for the House of the Future…. ABSOLUTELY thrilled!!!
