I ended up choosing a geothermal system for a couple of reasons for the House of the Future. One, being there was a federal tax rebate and at the end of the day, it was actually significantly less for us as the homeowners to put in the geothermal system than it was for us to put in the heat storage system after that tax rebate we received. Secondly, the cooling was going to be easier to install with the geothermal water to water unit as opposed to actually adding a compressor and condenser for the Steffes heat storage unit.
The Geothermal system provides hot water for the winter heating months to feed the in floor hydronic radiant heat throughout the house. In the summer months the geothermal system will provide chilled water that will feed a cold water coil in the air handler to supply air conditioning through the house.
