With a passive solar designed house, we specifically choose glass on the south face of the house to allow solar heat transmission. This glass, called high SHGC glazing, is great in our winter climates but has a negative impact on our buildings in the summer. Even with proper overhangs on our house, the cooling load increased 5x with this glass. To reduce this heat gain in the summer, Graber designed motorized solar shades for the outside of the house. These blinds coordinate with the Control4 system and will automatically lower based on inside and outside temps.
