1-1/2″ of Gyp-Span radiant floor underlayment was installed between the floor deck and the tile throughout the main level of the house. This provided a mass for the radiant in floor heat system to heat to provide a consistant floor temperature. The gypsum floor also reduces noise transmission between the floors. If you are doing radiant flooring in an area that is above grade it is the best way to go.
