The interior cellular shades provided additional R-value for the windows eliminating the need to purchase more expensive glass with better thermal qualities. Automation of the interior cellular shades can be controlled by the homeowner and other inputs such as daylight sensors and indoor and outdoor temperature sensors. On cold winter nights the additional R-value on the windows reduces heat loss, but on a sunny January day when the temperature is below freezing the shades will be programed to open and take advantage of the solar gain.
